'Still Life in style of Old Masters' with Sonia Bacchus

The next speaker in the programme arranged by the Watford & Bushey Art Society is Sonia Bacchus - Tues 11 Nov 2014 at 7.30pm

Sonia Bacchus was born in Lodz, Poland where she studied for a Master of Fine Art Degree. On completing her degree she worked as a teaching assistant at the Academy of Art in Poland and as an Art Therapist for people with Mental disabilities and was also involved with the film industry as a scenery artist and wardrobe assistant.  In 2000 she worked on various international films including Proof of Life (Russell Crowe), George and the Dragon (Val Kimer) Four Feathers (Heath Ledger), Elizabeth the 1st (Jeremy Irons and Helen Mirren) and Damned United (Michael Sheen). Her work involved painting murals and making costumes.

Her subjects include portraits of people and pets, landscapes, still life, murals and nudes, plus paintings inspired by the old masters as she appreciates their attention to detail. She likes the light in Rembrandt's work and the subtlety of the soft light in Vermeer's paintings. Her paintings are figurative, metamorphic representation with the main key as the relationship between light and shadow.
