‘Six Selected Members of the Royal Institute of Oil Painters’ 28 April - 11 May 2013
A Right Royal Affair !
The A&K Wilson Gallery in Harpenden is staging a right royal event when it plays host to an exhibition of ‘Six Selected Members of the Royal Institute of Oil Painters’.
Founded in 1882, The Royal Institute of Oil Painters (The ROI) is unique in that is the only major art society which shows only oil paintings. Granted royal status by King Edward VII in 1909 it has exhibited many world famous artists including Rodin.
Drew Wilson of the gallery in Station Approach revealed:
“Selecting six artists from such a talented membership could have been an extremely difficult job, but actually it was quite easy, as all the artists I chose were already friends!”.... “I’m exceptionally pleased to be showing works by Bill Dean ROI, Adebanji Alade AROI, David Pilgrim ROI, Andrew King ROI EAGMA, Chris Bennett ROI and the President of the Institute, Peter Wileman PROI RSMA EAGMA FRSA. Their styles vary hugely but they all have one thing in common, a strong commitment to upholding the age-old tradition of painting in oils.”
The exhibition opens on Sunday 28 April (11-3) and runs until Saturday 11 May 2013 (Open Tues/Wed/Fri/Sat 10am-5.30-pm)
