#Plastic #Android #Scream
UH Fine Arts Students Exhibition
taking place at the Art & Design Gallery, University of Hertfordshire, College Lane, Hatfield AL10 9AB
24 February - 10 March 2014
Open: Mon-Fri 9.30am-5.00pm / Sat 9.30am-3pm
Why such a provocative and perplexing title for this exhibition?
Invited artist/curator Stephan Hausmeister tagged his first impressions of the work of fine art students at the University of Hertfordshire under these three distinct groups of work: ‘plastic’, ‘android’ and ‘scream’. Referencing some of the emergent themes of contemporary experience and the unpredictable and shifting role of fine art in our culture, the exhibition represents a spontaneous visualization of what student artists are both intuitively and consciously assimilating as citizens and practicing artists.
For the first time since the opening of the Art & Design Gallery in 1997, University of Hertfordshire Fine Art students will have the opportunity to co-curate their own exhibition in the gallery’s extensive space. Examining a range of media and shining a light into the working methodology of the emerging generation of artists, this new approach for the gallery will be fluid and collaborative.
#Plastic #Android #Scream represents the beginning of what we hope will become a regular annual event allowing students the opportunity to curate their own exhibition from the early planning stages to the final exhibition, and giving them new insights into the professional skills and methodologies which are so crucial in the workplace.
#Plastic #Android #Scream, is curated by Stephan Hausmeister and is a collaboration between UH Galleries and the staff and students of the fine art department in the University of Hertfordshire School of Creative Arts.
