Parndon Mill Open Studios Sat 21 & Sun 22 July 2012

This weekend its Parndon Mills annual Open Studios event, part of Essex Summer of Art. This year promises even more going on than ever. As well as most of the 30 studios, workshops and design offices being open, there will be demonstrations, including glassblowing, and opportunities to participate in craft workshops including fused glass. In addition, designers and architects are 'adopting' an artist to show what a difference artworks can make to the workplace.

As a community project, a design based on the Olympics by the pupils of Little Parndon Primary School will be cut into the 30 acres of grass in the adjacent meadows, directly below the flight path to Stansted Airport. A camera obscura will be fitted on the 40 foot mill chimney so that visitors may view the work without taking to the air.

Drawing together the wide range of creative skills at Parndon Mill, augmented by both new and regular exhibitors, The Gallery will present an ambitious exhibition, STRUCTURE, which seeks to demonstrate how structure can both challenge and inspire artists and how collaboration between artists, designers, architects and engineers can be critical to the successful realisation of the artists vision.

Parndon Mill will also be hosting the glass baton commissioned by the Contemporary Glass Society as a focus for "Glass Games" events. It will be mounted at the front of The Project Space where, during Open Studios, an exhibition will showcase the creativity of all who work here.
