MAKING OUR MARK BY SANDY CAMPBELL & AUDREY IMBER at The Wynd Gallery, Letchworth
The Wynd Gallery is proud to present Making Our Mark, a new body of work by local artists Sandy Campbell and Audrey Imber. (www.wyndgallery.co.uk)
Sandy Campbell is an abstract painter whose practice is firmly rooted in her experience of the declining urban landscape. The abandonment and decay surrounding her first studio in Luton influenced the development of the highly textured and complex surfaces that she creates, as well as inspiring her 3D works using recycled materials.
Audrey Imber captures the moment and atmosphere of a place and describes to the viewer how the place feels through gesture, texture, mark making and colour. The landscape is more than just scenery, it is made up of layers of history, layers of geology, seasons and weather; it can affect our senses and emotions.
Having met at Art School and finding mutual inspiration in the work of the St. Ives group of painters, Campbell and Imber have both been heavily influenced by their own observations of the landscape. Working across a range of techniques and media, figuration and abstraction, their practices are nevertheless united by their need to peer beneath the surface… revealing their own personal interpretation of the substance or essence of physicality and place.
