'Between Town and Country', Joy Thomson & Kathy Foster
The printmaking works by Joy Thomson and oil paintings by Kathy Foster are based on rural and urban landscapes, both local and from further afield. These works are on view 2 April – 1 May 2014 at the Pavilion Gallery in the beautiful gardens of Chenies Manor.
Kathy’s paintings are often based on overlooked objects and places that have a sense of transience, allowing her to explore the wide range of possibilities of oil painting. Joy’s work uses the natural environment to continue her development of printmaking processes, a variety of which are on display.
Some works feature our own locality, from Watford’s changing urban environment to the lakes and Aquadrome at Rickmansworth and the Chess Valley. Much of our local landscape sits between town and countryside, providing a wealth of opportunities for creating a wide range of artwork.
Joy and Kathy have known each other for many years, during which they have gained professional qualifications and artistic experience. Kathy graduated from Bucks Chilterns University in 2004 with a degree in Fine Art. Joy has immersed herself in the medium of printmaking and all its diversity, gaining a Professional Development Diploma and a Higher Professional Diploma in Printmaking.
The exhibition can be viewed during Chenies Manor opening times: Wednesday and Thursday afternoons, 2-5pm, as well as on Easter Monday, 21 April, from 2-5pm, when the house and gardens will be open to the public.
