Artist in Residence: Amber Stevens, 6-31 Aug 2013
'My preference is to use found and scrap material or to repurpose items in an attempt to draw out their hidden qualities. The various elements used become building blocks that can be constructed and de-constructed in different ways, allowing for transient or ‘floating’ structures that are often fragile in nature.' AMBER STEVENS
Amber Stevens has been appointed this year’s ‘Artist in Residence’ at Courtyard Arts and Community Centre in Hertford.
The residency, which takes place at Courtyard Arts every August, provides an artist with combined gallery and studio space for the month, allowing the artist to make and exhibit his or her work.
Amber, who lives in Hertfordshire, recently graduated in Fine Art from the University of Hertfordshire. She enjoys using found and scrap material in her three dimensional work, and “repurposing items in an attempt to draw out their hidden qualities”.
During the residency, Amber will be exhibiting her developing artwork and will host a more formal exhibition at the end of the month. It is planned that she will also deliver two creative workshops.
Amber said: “I’m thrilled to be Courtyard Arts’ Artist in Residence this year and hope to really do justice to this beautiful space.”
To visit Amber in the studio please come along to Courtyard Arts between August 5 and 31 (Tuesdays to Saturdays, 10 – 4). To sign up for one of the creative workshops please contact Courtyard Arts on 01992 509596 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
