Jackie Bennett
The source of inspiration for my work is the exploration of texture, pattern and colour in natural forms; the movement and expression in animals and birds and also a fascination for words and proverbs in relation to images.
I first record images I encounter in pencil. This enables me to capture the immediacy of the moment, which I then use as the basis for all my work. I love using the medium of needle felting for its soft and tactile quality, the process of which I find very therapeutic. A variety of wools are used to felt into the desired sculptural and textured pieces, where sometimes the ordinary has been exaggerated into abstract and quirky forms.
A keen interest in Japanese art and a desire to recycle a growing pile of collectables in my home has led me to produce some collage work using card, thread and scraps of material.
Personally, the enjoyment of producing art is the physical interaction with materials combined with the continuing desire to improve, explore, change and exchange ideas.
