Eeva Gibbs
My present work consists of vessels with a reference to domestic utilitarian objects. These may be ambiguous, most of them could hold something if required, but they are simply choices of form. I work intuitively responding to quality and feel of the materials, I never think in words about my work, it is more about feelings.
I use materials as diverse as birch bark, silver, paper, Perspex and wire, sometimes adding found objects. By using inappropriate materials and construction to produce familiar shapes I play with people s perception of function and values of the objects.
In the past I have designed and woven wallhangings and rugs on a handloom and I am constantly looking for new ways of working. At the moment I am in the process of setting up a glass kiln in order to add another dimension to my work.
