Catherina is a textile and mixed media artist based in Hertfordshire. She practices textile arts and crafts for over 30 years. Having followed various creative arts courses she spend most of her time working as a freelance textile artist.
Her work is often quite colourful. She likes to use pure, bright colours, as they not only express her joy for life, but every pure colour creates different energetic and psychological effects, which she might use both deliberately or intuitively. Sometimes though she works in simple white and gold to give expression to a stiller, more inward energy.
Catherina likes to practice a wide variety of stitch and fabric manipulation techniques, preferring to use techniques which best suit a particular piece rather than specialising too much in the use of a certain method. Her work is therefore more concept driven then design, pattern or technique based.
Catherina has a lifelong interest in self-development through the practice of meditation, philosophy and the study of esoteric subjects, which informs most of her work. She also likes to use her own life-experiences to express and highlight certain subjects, like loss, mental health and the question of identity.
With a love of words she often incorporates text in one form or another and she further makes frequent use of symbolic imagery.
Catherina is a member of various art and textile related groups, like the Herts Visual Arts, Threads of Time, Herts Textile Arts, Easter Region Textile Forum and the Embroiderers' Guild.
She regularly exhibits her work through these groups and occasionally teach or lecture.
Her work ranges from installations, 3D objects, framed and mounted 2D work, to applied art forms such as bags, cushions, book covers, etc. She has work in private collections in the UK, the Netherlands, France and the USA.
